Art. Adapted for Assisted Living.

Oil Paint Tubes

Adaptive Art has developed an adaptive curriculum specifically designed with assisted living and memory care facilities in mind. The curriculum and lessons are designed around Alzheimer's research and occupational therapy practices. We aim to “kill two birds with one stone” so to speak and help dexterity, mobility, and strength, while also encouraging the social and cultural stimulation that come with art classes in general.

We have worked hard to create six different classes that each address a different section of the resident populations currently being cared for in long term facilities. This includes developing a curriculum for painting and craft classes specifically for memory care facilities. We strive to keep up with current Alzheimer/dementia research as well as with occupational therapy best practice. In accordance with that research, we have also designed and sourced several adaptive tools for use in class. This included adaptive paintbrush grips, an accessible paint palette, a magnetic stamp system, and comfort fit sculpting ribs.

What is included?

Each Class includes all of the necessary material and instruction. That means paint, canvases, table cloths, paper, glue, and everything else you need is provided.

In most cases, no additional staff support is required, but sometimes there is more interest than one teacher can handle. For assisted living, we require additional staff support for more than 10 class participants, and for memory care we require additional staff support for more than 5 class participants. These staffing requirements ensure that residents have a safe and enjoyable time in their classes.
